In-nozzle impregnation of continuous textile flax fiber/polyamide 6 composite during FFF process

A simple and customized method is adapted to print the continuous bleached textile flax yarn/polyamide 6 composites by Fused Filament Fabrication. It allowed successfully composite in one shot thanks in-situ fiber impregnation inside head. Three filling patterns (0°, 90° ± 45°) strategies relative tensile loading were adopted investigate Young Modulus strength. The best mechanical properties obtained for unidirectional composite, where void content inter-layer delamination decreased with increasing volume fraction. However, transversal remained at their weakest point. Competitive specific elastic compared those of glass fiber/PA printed composites, given literature review, potential compete latter infrastructure, automotive industry, consumer applications. This possible if only decreased, its yarn/matrix adhesion improved.
